How to get Relief From Pain

Pain is a challenge that many are faced with daily.  All those days of anguish and suffering  in pain – not wanting to get out of bed – it can really be an unhappy time until you decide to make changes.  You can do this with lifestyle changes and mind shifts.  Lifestyle changes include what you eat, exercise, and  mentally being grateful for what you have.  We all have something to be happy and grateful for now.

What can you do get relief from pain?

  • Changing your eating habits can make a huge difference – when was the last time you had 4 servings of vegetables in a day?  Once you get into that habit your body will thank you.  Delve into all the many different types, colours and textures of veggies!  You need greens like broccoli, spinach, kale, chard, yellows like squash, yams and carrots, purples like beets and eggplant, and whites like radishes.  Veggies help to rebuild the body.   The best way to eat your veggies is raw and if that does not work for you, STEAM them – this helps to keep the flavour and nutrient value.   Fruits are also important – fruits are cleansers in the body and what a selection we have with fruit – everything from apples to mangos to pears to  pineapples!  Veggies and fruits have lots of vitamins and minerals.  Treat fruits like candy – eat in moderation.  Having some good supplements like a sublingual B12 or Nopalea – a juice made from the Nopal cactus from the Sonoran Desert – noted for giving the body lots of antioxidents..
  • How often do you walk, run, jog, dance or go to the gym?  Exercise – some form of movement depending upon your ability – is so important  – if you do not use it you lose it!  Just do deep breathing to start if that is all that you can manage!  Find some form of exercise that appeals to you – not something someone told you to do.  It must be fun for you – that way you will really raise your energy levels, create things called endorphins  (happy hormones!), find some relief from pain and inflammation  and want to do more.  Check with your health care provider to see if you have any limitations on the type of exercise that you may want to do – mountain climbing may not be possible with sciatica or a broken leg!
  • Are you grateful for the things that you are blessed with in your life?  The more you are grateful, the more good things come to you.  One way to do this is to keep a gratitude  journal – every night before bed, go to a quiet place, get out your “special journal” and write down 10 things that you were grateful for that day – one may be that you were grateful to be able to clean your teeth!  Record it – as you change so will your gratitudes!  Focussing on being grateful will also bring some relief from pain.

When will you start making these changes now?  Every day you will get better and better with improved eating habits, supplements, exercise and gratitude,  won’t you?  I would love to hear about your lifestyle changes and how they work for you to get  relief from pain.
